PatternIQ Mining (PIQM) publishes original work only. The journal does not accept plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate or redundant publication, or the manipulation or fabrication of data and images.
Screening
Every submitted manuscript is checked with similarity-detection software during the initial editorial screening, before it is sent to reviewers. Revised manuscripts may be checked again before acceptance.
The similarity report is read by an editor. A percentage alone does not decide the outcome: the editor considers where the overlapping text comes from, how much there is, in which sections it appears and whether the sources are cited. Properly cited quotations, standard method descriptions and reference lists are treated differently from unattributed copying.
What the journal treats as plagiarism
- Copying text, ideas, data, figures, tables or code from another source without citation and, where required, permission
- Paraphrasing or translating another author's work without acknowledgement
- Reusing substantial parts of the authors' own published work without citing it (text recycling)
- Submitting a manuscript that has already been published, or submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time
- Presenting text or content produced by a generative AI tool as the authors' own without the disclosure required by the policy on the Use of AI and AI-Assisted Tools
Action taken
Before publication: depending on the extent of the problem, the manuscript is returned to the authors for correction and proper citation, or it is rejected. In serious cases the authors' institution may be informed.
After publication: the journal investigates following the relevant COPE guidance. The outcome may be a correction or a retraction, as set out in Corrections and Retractions.
Reporting suspected plagiarism
Readers, reviewers and authors who suspect plagiarism in a submitted or published article are asked to write to editor.piqm@gmail.com, giving the article concerned and the source believed to have been copied.
