Research data and code
PatternIQ Mining (PIQM) encourages transparency and reproducibility. Authors are encouraged to make available the materials that support their findings, including:
- datasets;
- source code and trained models;
- experimental configurations and simulation parameters;
- supplementary material.
Where possible, data and code should be deposited in a public repository that provides a persistent identifier, and cited in the reference list.
Data availability statement
Every research article must include a "Data Availability" statement that says where the supporting data can be found or why it cannot be shared. For example:
- The dataset and source code are publicly available at [repository name and identifier].
- The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request.
- This study used the publicly available [name] dataset, which is cited in the reference list.
Access may be restricted where sharing would breach the privacy of participants, ethical or legal obligations, confidentiality agreements or the rights of a third party. The reason must be stated.
Editors and reviewers may ask to see the underlying data or code during peer review. Authors should keep their raw data after publication and provide it to the editors on request.
Ethics approval
Research involving human participants, personal or sensitive data, human material or animals must comply with the relevant institutional, national and international requirements.
Research involving people or personal data
The manuscript must state:
- the name of the ethics committee or institutional review board that approved the study, with the approval or reference number;
- that informed consent was obtained from the participants or, where applicable, their legal guardians;
- how the privacy and confidentiality of participants were protected.
Research involving human participants must follow the Declaration of Helsinki. If a study was exempt from ethics review, the authors must say so and give the reason. Studies that use existing datasets containing personal data must explain the basis on which the data could be used.
Research involving animals
The manuscript must state the approval obtained, the institution responsible for oversight and the steps taken to minimise suffering.
Identifiable information
Names, images and other details that could identify a person must not be published unless they are essential to the work and the person has given written consent to publication.
If requirements are not met
Manuscripts without the required statements are returned to the authors. Concerns about the ethics of a submitted or published study are handled under the Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.
